The hero throughout this novel rushed between them and could not choose the most beloved. Compared to Aksinya, Natalya is the guardian of the hearth. The girl used to live by the rules of her family and listen to the opinions of others. She is very correct, obedient and, according to Gregory, did not fit him. Aksinya was an imperious woman, accustomed to listening only to herself, and was not going to share Gregory with anyone else.
