And it manifests itself not only when we hurt someone, whether physically or psychologically, but also when we remain indifferent and indifferent to the troubles of others. When we can help, but don’t do it, when we deprive people of words of sympathy and compassion, support and simple kindness. And we see this almost every day. Human indifference and selfishness - that is the true product of cruelty. As evidence, I will give specific examples from the literature.
In Vladimir Zheleznikov’s story “Scarecrow,” the author tells us about a girl named Lena Bessoltseva, who takes the blame for the bad deed that others did and suffers humiliation and attacks from classmates. They show great cruelty, despite such a young age. For Lena, this is an endless series of suffering, hatred, contempt and loneliness. But the cruelest punishment for a child, and indeed for any person, is expulsion from society. But the worse is that the real culprit, classmate Dima Somov, does not dare to admit what he has done, seeing everything that Lena has to go through. And even those who accidentally found out the truth, Shmakov and Popov, do not intervene and just watch how it all ends for Lena. In my opinion, their indifference is much worse than the cowardice of Dima Somov. This is true cruelty.
Sometimes people are cruel only because a person is different in something, not like everyone else. As, for example, in the novel "Overcoat" by N. V. Gogol. The author tells about how cruel a society can be and how it draws conclusions about a person only by external factors, rank, material condition. Akaky Akakievich is a good-natured person who suffers the ridicule of his colleagues. But, despite all this, he loves his work and does it with pleasure. When Bashmachkin has a new overcoat, bought for the savings collected with such difficulty, people look at him differently and also treat him differently. But the world is not fair and cruel: Akaki Akakievich loses his overcoat, robbers stole it. And here he is again in the center of ridicule and mockery. In the world of this work there is no place for a kind person. False values reign in it, hypocrisy and cruelty, inconspicuous, insidious, but omnipresent and powerful.
Cruelty can have an infinite number of manifestations. But no matter what it is, it is probably known that it always hurts people, and does not have any excuses. It is generated by the people themselves, and these same people have the power to eradicate it, there would be a desire. It is worth thinking about your actions and starting, first of all, with yourself, and then, perhaps, the world will be cleansed of evil.
