(413 words) I believe that revenge is not something worth paying attention to, nor is it worth spending time and effort on. After all, the more we think about it, the more we get angry, and ourselves become worse than the one we are going to punish. Therefore, revenge must be abandoned when it pushes us to immoral and aggressive thoughts and actions. To verify this, it is enough to analyze examples from the literature.
The first argument may be the work of A.S. Pushkin "Eugene Onegin." We all know the story of how Eugene rejected Tatyana, and, in order not to embarrass her with his presence, decided to leave as soon as possible. But a friend invited him to the girl's name day, and Eugene could not refuse. Onegin felt extremely awkward this evening and blamed his comrade for everything. He decided to take revenge and flirted with Olga, his lover, who was very frivolous by nature. The quick-tempered Lensky challenged Onegin to a duel and, unfortunately, it ended with the death of Vladimir. If Eugene stopped in time and drove off the very idea of revenge, then nothing would have happened, and the young poet would have been alive, and even the perpetrator of the crime would not have felt like a criminal until the end of his days. So, retaliation must be abandoned when it threatens with bad consequences.
Another argument in support of my position is Gorky's work “At the Bottom”. Vasilisa tyrannizes her sister because of jealousy. Natasha attracts Vaska Ashes, who used to be the lover of the young mistress of the rooming house. Seeing the thief's interest in her younger sister, she got angry and decided to take revenge on her loved ones. So, she began to beat and insult Natasha, and Pepla made a cunning offer. She asked to kill her husband and promised a reward. When the thief accidentally fulfilled her wish, Vasilisa immediately declared him a criminal and condemned him to a long prison sentence. The mutilated Natasha, beaten by her sister, curses her boyfriend, thinking that they are together with her offender. The heroine’s revenge was a success, but she was captured in a whirlpool of evil and cruelty. The widow was also arrested, and now she and the murderer testified against each other. And if Vasilisa stopped in time and did not keep her lover, avenge her sister and prepare the murder of her husband, then she would not be in such a difficult situation. She needed to refrain from retribution when she realized that it would require victims from those close to her.
Thus, we can conclude that revenge must be abandoned the very second as soon as you think about it. Obviously, in any case, it promises bad consequences. It will drag you into the abyss of vice and evil, from where they do not return. Therefore, it is necessary to be able to let go of resentment without revenge.
