Stephen Edwin King is one of the most successful and popular American writers of the 21st century. For many readers, he is known by the nickname "King of Horrors." And, indeed, King's mystical novels scare even the most avid horror story lovers. Moreover, based on the books of Stephen King, a huge number of films were shot, which, in turn, fell in love with the audience and took high places in the tops of world cinema. But even the “King” has bad days in which the author created books that clearly did not cause the reader’s enthusiasm.
So, in this top 7 most unsuccessful works of Stephen King are presented.
7th place - “Library Police”. The story can really be called interesting and exciting. King in this work set out to show what kind of monster an ordinary person is sometimes. But many readers believe that this time the writer went too far: the scenes of violence in the story are described too vividly, which obviously scares off most people and takes away the desire to read the “Library Police” to the end.
6th place - “Carrying death” (“Sunny Dog”). The best option for reading, if you just need to take time: a simple and typical story with the expected outcome. The author reveals the complex story of the boy Kevin and the neighbor's bulldog. An ordinary novel that does not allow you to plunge into events and experience what is happening with the character.
5th place - “Losing Weight”. The well-known work of Stephen King's "Losing Weight" also hit the top of the author's unsuccessful works. The book is filled with "water", typical and inanimate characters, descriptions are often repeated, and you get the feeling that when you read it you do not get off the ground. The mixture of drama and gypsy curses is breathtaking and leaves much to be desired.
4th place - “The Talisman”. He wrote the Book of Books in collaboration with Peter Straub, and this was probably the main mistake. The novel lacks the typical and beloved by the reader style of the "king of horrors." The story described in the novel is boring and clearly tense, while reading the thought sometimes arises: "Why did you have to invent this at all?" You should not expect horrors causing goosebumps from this book, but the oppressive atmosphere is guaranteed to you.
3rd place - “Regulators”. Even great writers are not safe from failure, and the book Regulators is King's case. From the very beginning, the novel abounds with a huge number of names, details and descriptions that only interfere with the reader. Too much information needs to be learned in order to get to the very “filling”, which also turns out to be not the best. Despite the fact that the idea put forward by Stephen King is interesting, the plot turned out to be boring and unoriginal: a lot of blood, deaths, but not enough dynamics.
2nd place - “Kujo”. Stephen King’s novel “Kujo” has the most primitive plot compared to other works of the “King of Horrors.” The problems of this work are not surprising: conflicts in a typical American family, a child’s love for an animal, fear of a dangerous beast. Also a minus of this work, according to most King fans, is the sad ending. After reading the Kujo novel, the only feeling the reader will probably be able to experience is pity for the mother, son, and dog.
1st place - “The Dark Half”. The book "The Dark Half" can also be safely attributed to not the best works of Stephen King. The novel is full of mysticism and, despite the small volume, is read for a very long time. According to the reviews of fans, we can conclude that the "Dark Half" is given to many far from the first time to be read. And in principle, expectations from this book are several times higher than reality.
